I used to be completely obsessed with Shabby Chic.
And I still am.
My friend Terry would always make me smile
when she would say “you are so shabby chic”.
Over the last year or more, my house has transformed
more into white, black and gray (silver)
Little by little all my “white stuff” was brought down to the basement.

I am about to re-do one of our bedrooms.
First, the room was our dinning room, than we turned it into a bedroom.
Now that we do not need an extra bedroom any more, we want to
make it our office/guest room.

I have decided to go for the Shabby Chic Style; The vintage and antique style.
I miss the style at my house.

I love the UK Queen of Shabby Chic Rachel Ashwell
There are so many nice pictures on her website:
She also has a  blog

How can you not be in love with the style?

Rachel Ashwell/Shabby Chic has a store in NYC.
Should you be in the area it is a must-see store:
The store is located at
117 Mercer St.,
New York, NY 10012

If you are a Shabby Chic fan, you want to live in the store!

I want to share some inspirational pictures from the Shabby Chic website

And; this is what we are up against at our little house.
 Our up-coming office/guest room

As you can see there is a long way to go.
But we are ready for the project!
I will let you see the result when we are all done with the transformation!

Ada loves to do her homework

Now it's time for this little one to eat dinner, take a bath and
watch a little bit of television.  And then it's time to go to sleep.

Tomorrow is Friday.
I love Fridays !!!
There are so many fantastic interior design magazines

I have subscriptions for 3 magazines.

Coastal Living, Martha Stewart Living and Elle Décor.

I enjoy all 3 of them !

Coastal Living
I do not live in any sort of tropical or seaside area but
I still love this magazine which is full of shore style.  And pastel colors.
The magazine also have articles about travelling.
They give you ideas of cute little Inns and cozy places to stay at, local
restaurants and shopping. Every time I get my magazine
in the mail I want to go on vacation. “Vamonos!”

Martha Stewart Living
The magazine is full of domestic arts, and it focuses on home life. I like that !
The magazine gives  me a lot of smart ideas
for organization, decoration and entertaining.
I like the ideas because they are realistic
and they get you super motivated.

Elle Décor.
I only have 1 word for this magazine….. Amazing !

All 3 magazines are of course available on line
(I added the link under each picture).
I personally prefer to get them in the mail.
To me it is more “charming” to get a magazine
by mail, it is more personal, I guess.

In the US it is so cheap to subscribe on magazines;
For example Elle Décor is $27.95 for 2 years ! How can you say no?

I love the magazine rack I have in Ada’s room.

I like how you can put books in it and use them as decoration.
You can always add or change the books if
you want to switch it up.

I have been thinking about buying one for my kitchen and have
some of my cook books in it.

I bought a new picture for Ada's room.....

Have a great evening

Candice Olson

I love Candice Olson from HGTV.
Every time I watch her show, old or new, I get sooooo inspired.

These pictures are just some of her design work.

If I won the lottery I would hire her to do my house!!
Have a wonderful day !

See you later
Time to go to work....

One of my favourite places to go shopping is Home Goods.
Yes, I agree it can be messy, but it is hard not to leave the store with
something. I have a Home Goods store close to my house.
I have bought a lot of my lanterns, frames and
decorations for the Holidays etc. there.

And… I also love that they have Danish spread from Den Gamle Fabrik.
I snapped some pictures when I was there the last time;

Halloween Stuff
More Halloween Stuff
Kids Stuff (they have for boys too)
A lot of Lanterns
Check out their website
People can post their Home Good Finds on their website.
I think it is kind of cool....

Arial, the Little Mermaid......

No wait! I think it is Ada...
She was so happy that she could dress up this weekend. (I could not say no...)
She asked me if she could go in the pool with her
outfit on, since she is a mermaid...

Time for Halloween Danish hygge time!

I am looking for some new Halloween decorations.
I am not really into the scary scheme, but more into the pumpkins/harvest decorations.
And the enormous amounts of candy, of course !
What I like about the pumpkins/harvest decorations are that you can keep
them around until Thanks-Giving in November.

I just got the new Pottery Barn catalogue in the mail a couple of days ago.
I love it, and I am ready to start decorating our little house.

I would love the 2 black Adirondack Chairs.
We have 2 white once in front of the house (I’ll see if I can take a picture
of the front of my house one of these days).
Mr. J and I love to sit in them and “keep an eye on the neighborhood” (aka Mr. J is not allowed to smoke inside the house so he has to go out-side; rain or shine!)

What I like about Pottery Barn is that it is not to pricey (which is perfect
for people like me) and they have things for everybody’s taste.

I also want to decorate the entrance of my little house and I found
these 2 inspirational pictures, also from Pottery Barn

See you later !

PS: We got the Arial costume for Ada!
I have a little girl who is very happy!

Friday Night and finally Weekend.

Here is a picture of Ada. (She did her own make-up)
She loves to pose for pictures.
I was playing with the camera while we were waiting for our food to come.
We always order food on Fridays.

This weekend I am taking Ada to the mall to find a Halloween costume for her.
This year she wants to be Arial from the Little Mermaid.
I think we are heading for the Disney store....

Have great Friday evening

Danish Magazine BoligLiv

I find a lot of inspiration from Danish magazines.
One of my favorite magazine is Boligliv.

BoligLiv has a reportage of this Danish home (the founder of By Nord)

I am completely in love with the floors. And, my floors need to be done; desperately.
I also love the touch of nature.

I found this one line-store
(You can also visit the store on 89 Christopher Street in New York City)

Sockerbit sells all kinds of candy

They  also have different kinds of licorice which I am addicted to.

I am going to order on line and when I get a chance I
think I am going to visit the store too.

I think they have a (new) frequent customer in me!

Ada this morning.

Ada went to sleep late last night, and when I put her on
the sofa to watch television this morning, this is how
I found her a few minutes later

Tonight she is sleeping early.
Tomorrow she has an exciting day. She is going to the movies with her daycare.

New coffee table

This is our little living room

I am looking for a new coffee table and have set my mind for an ottoman.
I want a black leather one. One of those where you can flip the top
and turn it into a table. And also use as storage.

I found this one at Crate and Barrel. I like it,
and was thinking maybe 2 of them will do.

I have to think about it. I can be a little picky.....

Happy Monday Everybody !

Play Date with BFF Julie

Today Ada and I went to my Danish friend Anne’s house.
Anne has a daughter, Julie, who is same age as Ada and one of her BFFs.

It is always so nice to go to their house.
Ada and Julie play, and Anne and I get to catch up on motherhood, life
and so much more . I met Anne through DK-mom (a group for Danes in
NJ, NY and PA). We met before we became mothers.
After we had our daughters we started to meet up for play dates. Over time we have grown into becoming very good friends.
I always leave her house having had a great time. I know Ada feels the
same way. She never wants to leave.

Here is a pictures from today of Julie and Ada
(Julie and Ada)
Have a great Sunday Evening !

I have a confession !

I am obsessed with lanterns.

This is one of them (in my living room).

Ada and I just finished baking a chocolate cake. Now it's time to taste it.

Hope you are also having a great weekend.

I love to read.

My mom was just here visiting from Denmark, and she brought me some new Danish books. All thrillers!
It has turned into a tradition that she brings me a  (large) supply of books when she comes to visit. (she reads them first and then I inherit them….)

There are so many great Danish and Swedish authors.

This is what I call “Marie Time”;
When everybody is sleeping, and the house is all cozy and quite, I love to throw myself on the couch with a cup of tea, tug myself into a blanket, and read a book.

Tonight is one of those nights !

My First Post

My First Post!

With inspiration from all these amazing blogs about life, interior design and so much more, I have decided to start my own blog.

With my blog  I would like to share my life, being a mother and wife, my interest for design and all the good and fun things in life that makes a difference….

I also wanted to have this blog so my family and friends can be part of my daily life now living in the US.
Even though I am far away from them, I am still only  “a click” away !

I also hope to inspire and make new friends.

This blog world is all new to me, so please have patience. Hopefully with time I will be able to manage the cyber world !

I would love to hear from you.
Feel free to contact me at any time.

Welcome to my blog !
